To go or not to go.

Author: Dr. K. S. Kang

Sometimes such situations arise in life when it gets difficult for a man to decide which way to go or not to go or not to go at all. One such situation arose in life of Mangu, who was a social being embedded in the ideals and moral of middle working class of society, where it was believed that a man must attend the events of sorrow in the life of a fellow being. Mangu got the sad news of the demise of a retired government servant who lived in the adjoining colony. While Mangu was preparing himself for the funeral of this retired government servant, he got equally sad and unexpected demise of the wife of his neighbour, though she was fit and fine, yet aged and his neighbour was ill from some time and was not seen from quite a long time. So he had to confirm doubly whether his neighbour or his wife had departed.

Now as it was time of chilly winters of the month of January, so Mangu was in no mood to attend both the funerals as it was mandatory to take bath after coming from the funeral ground and Mangu was not ready at all to take bath twice in this freezing winter of the month of January. So he has no option but to attend one funeral only as he did not want to douse his body in water twice in the hostile winters of January. So after thinking all the pros and consequences of his decision, at last he decided to skip the funeral of retried government servant and attend the funeral of his neighbour’s wife that was to be held in the afternoon. As retired government servant too was close to his heart so he decided to go to his house tomorrow so as to pay his homage and tribute to the departed soul and to console his near and dear ones.
