New Replaces Old - The Ultimate Law of Universe

New Replaces Old – The Ultimate Universal Law

Author: Dr. K. S. Kang

Perhaps it is natural that by and large a person gets inclined more towards his spouse than his parents though they had given birth to him and had they not been there he would not have come into existence. Perhaps it is essential too as nature also desires that a person should favour the spouse rather than his parents in order to propagate human generation. And then when a third person joins the family the new member is certain to take some attention of the members of the family, at least her husband, though children should not neglect or ignore their parents altogether after getting wedded. There is nothing unnatural or illogical in it. But seniors in the family only require regard and a feeling, even if false one, that their children take their advise and guidance before taking any step in their life. Even if children do not act as per their advise will not hurt the seniors as much as the thing that they have not been consulted at all or nobody felt the need of consulting them. That way they will feel marginalised, alienated and neglected. Even children take their permission before doing anything gives seniors a feeling of content that they are still of some worth in this world.

Likewise after superannuation from job after putting in a reasonably good span of life at a place, a person expects that he will be given regard and respect whenever he comes across his junior colleagues. But even if they get less regard after retirement at their former working place then it should not disturb the people as after his exit from the job, his junior colleagues may have moved to supervisory positions, their area of responsibility may have enhanced, they may be facing new issues, worries and anxieties regarding the work so they may not be able to give that much attention to you as they listened to you when you were in the chair. As it is a universal law that the new replaces and sometimes even displaces the old. Sometimes new people come in who may not know you so well than the acquaintance you had with your former colleagues. A person should not feel dejected if he does not get that warm welcome in his former place of working though the intention of his colleagues, still working there, is not to disregard you but they may be too busy to face their issues and daily problems that they could not pay that much attention to you that you desired. But juniors should also make it a point to give as much attention and regard as possible because seniors having experience may give you some clue that may help you to tackle some problem easily.

I would like to conclude this piece by giving an example stressing the significance of the aged and experienced people in the society. Once a wedding took place in which the bride party kept a condition that the wedding procession should include only young people. Groom party agreed to it and on the wedding day fifty young men proceeded in the wedding procession. While the vehicle of the procession was about to start the journey, an old man urged them to take him also as he will be helpful there. After initial hesitation they decided to hide the old man under the seat so as to meet the condition of the bride side that all people in the procession should be young people. As they reached the spot, bride side put another condition that first of all they will have to eat 50 kgs of sweet that they have arranged for them, then only the procession can proceed further for the wedding. After hurried consultation one of them decided to consult the experienced man hidden under the seat of the bus. After consulting him the decision to bride side was communicated that they are ready to eat 50 kgs of sweets provided it is brought in the instalments of 1 kg after a gap of one hour. Bride side could not afford to waste that much time so they took back their condition but they protested that you have brought some old man definitely with you, otherwise this solution would not have occurred to you. So this weight of experience that can tilt the scale in one’s favour.

Commitment

Author: Dr. K. S. Kang

One day began quite unfavourably for Santu, perhaps he had seen his own face on getting up in the full size mirror affixed to the wardrobe placed in front of the bed in the room, where due to guests in the house he had to spend night in this room. After quickly getting through his daily routine and as he was settling himself for the feast of news both in print medium in newspaper and in electronic media in the diverse channels on LED television set, children and guests who had gathered for the festival demanded piping hot spicy samosas for breakfast. Oblique look and the straight face devoid of any feeling was adequate indication that his wife too desired so.

So Santu took his white scooter taking a cloth bag along with him and took off for the famous Samosa shop of the town. Santu took the carry bag containing hot spicy samosas, handed over by the shopkeeper after debating over the price for some time, wrapped in Khaki coloured paper that was put in the plastic carry bag and placed it in the boot of the scooter and started the scooter and reached his home. So far everything was in order. But as soon as he reached his home and halted his scooter placing it on side stand and applied the key of the scooter to open its boot containing piping hot samosas he found that key was unable to open the boot of the scooter and now as it had stuck up in the hole of the lock of the boot so the scooter also could not be started with that key. Santu was worried more about the Samosas than the scooter as with time Samosas will get cool, limp and soggy.

As he could not start the scooter, so he at once decided to take the scooter to the nearest mechanic shop. He had to struggle a lot to drag the scooter to the nearest mechanic shop and as it was humid heat of the month of July so by the time he reached the shop he was totally drenched in sweat and was so much out of breath that he had to wait for a few minutes before explaining the trouble with the scooter. After examining the scooter for some time, mechanic who was still feeling sleepy as he had just opened the shop advised him to take the scooter to the lock repair shop so as to avoid the replacement with new lock that would be costly. So accepting mechanic’s advise Santu dragged the scooter for another five hundred metres in sweltering and oppressive heat of the monsoon season.

Lock repair man after haggling and struggling with the key for some time gave his expert opinion that this lock cannot be repaired and there is no option but to replace it with a new lock. As Lock Repair man handed over the new lock he also informed Santu that he will have to go back again to mechanic as it is mechanic who fits the lock and his work is only to repair lock and sell new lock. So Santu dragged back scooter again to the mechanic shop in great discomfort and his face had turned purple due to excessive heat of the July that was causing excessive sweating. As soon as Santu handed over the scooter to he mechanic he told him to open the boot of the scooter at once and then he can take his own time in putting new lock in the scooter as his family and guests was waiting for hot spicy samosas that are now locked in the boot of the scooter. Sensing my urgency mechanic took the hammer and broke open the lock of the boot at once. And as soon as the boot of the scooter opened I grabbed the carry bag containing Samosas and nearly started running towards my house amazing the passers by. As he reached his home he handed over the carry bag to his wife and to serve them at once. Though the Samosas were not piping hot but yet they had not become soggy and limp and they were still warm, spicy and crisp. To the guests and children the only words that Santu could utter only these words, ‘ Something is better than nothing’ but from inside he was feeling contented that he succeeded in fulfilling his promise and commitment.
